Poker

The origins of Poker are vague, but the game has some common elements that are unique to it. The word itself is an apocryphal mix of several previous games. While the earliest known version of Poker was probably in 17th century France, where it evolved into a variation of primero, the word probably got its name from French settlers. A few centuries later, the game was brought to the United States, where its popularity exploded.

Typically, a hand is considered to be “high” if it has five cards of the same rank, or if it has a pair. A full house, on the other hand, is a set of three cards of the same rank. It is possible to make a full house with a straight or flush, but not with a high card. In the latter case, the player would need to draw three cards of the same suit to make a straight, which is the best hand.

A game of poker is played with a pack of 52-card cards, with jokers sometimes added. When more than seven players are present, the dealer must supply the chips. There are several variations of poker, and it’s best to play more than one type of poker to get the best experience. Among the more ridiculous versions are Strip Poker and Holding cards behind one’s head. There are literally hundreds of variations on this card game.
