Poker is a card game with many rules. To be successful, a player must make a minimum bet in order to get started. The dealer, who may be a dealer himself, must also have a high card in order to qualify for the hand. If the dealer has a queen-high or higher, then the player may win the hand. When a dealer does not have a high card, the player must fold or call the hand.

In most games, players play with poker chips, which are provided by the dealer. Each player gets a different chip value, usually the lowest value is a white. A red chip, on the other hand, is worth five whites. The player is referred to as “buying in” by purchasing chips for a predetermined amount. A game of poker usually involves seven players. There are also rules that govern the number of chips each player can use.

The goal of the game is to have the best 5-card hand out of seven cards. During each betting phase, the players show their hands to determine which hand is better. A winning hand wins the pot. If more than one player remains in the hand, the game is called a “showdown.” In this case, each player’s hand is revealed. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. After this betting round, the other players reveal their cards.
