In poker, the chances of winning or losing depend on how you handle your cards. A typical hand is a combination of luck and skill, but a little chance can come into play. Players may be required to contribute to the pot before the deal is made. A game of poker usually has six to eight players, with a minimum of five players. A pot is the sum of all bets made by all players during a deal. A player can win the pot by having the highest poker hand, or by making a bet that no other player calls.

There are two kinds of hands: four of a kind and a flush. A four of a kind has four cards of the same rank, and the higher pair wins the hand. However, if two fours of the same rank are dealt, a second four-of-a-kind will win. If two four-of-a-kinds are dealt to the same player, a high card will break the tie. A flush, on the other hand, is a set of four cards of the same suit.

The game of poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards (though some games include jokers). In poker, these cards are ranked from Ace high to Ace low. Each player has five cards – three face cards and one hole card. The highest poker combination wins the pot.
